Group Records Report - May 2002

Greetings once again from Area 36 Group Records. I hope you're all enjoying spring (extended winter?). I have a few updates for you since my last report.

As I mentioned in my last article, in February we received Group Information Sheets (GISs) from the General Service Office (GSO) as part of their annual effort to update the group and meeting information for all the US and Canada. We mailed 969 GISs out to the District Committee Members (DCMs) to arrive on/close to Valentine's day, asking that the information be checked and corrected as necessary and returned to us by/at the Delegate's Workshop in mid-April.

Thanks to the efforts of the DCMs, district Group Records chairs, and other volunteers, we received back 320 GISs by the deadline. In addition, your Group Records co-chair, Kay, followed up with the contacts in the inactive districts: 4, 5, 6, 10 and 11. All the updated GISs were forwarded to GSO in time to meet their May 1 deadline, and we have also updated the Area Records to reflect the changes.

New GSRs should be receiving their GSR kits shortly, and if the option to include contact information for your group or meeting was selected on the GIS, that information should be listed in the "2002 - 2003 Western United States A.A. Directory" when GSO publishes it this summer.

Now, just because we've finished the annual Group Updates for GSO, there's no need to wait 'til next year if you have a change for your group or meeting and its contact information. Any time there is a change to that information, please contact me. Also, if you are receiving mail from the Area and/or GSO and no longer wish to, just notify me and we can get you removed from those mailing lists.

As a result of a request at the May Area Committee Meetings, we will have a committee meeting of the Group Records chairs, and any other interested parties, at the August Committee Meetings. This would be an opportunity for the Group Records chairs to meet and discuss how they serve their district through Group Records, and share their experience, strength and hope in this service job. If you have items that you would like to see discussed at this meeting, please contact me. I will be sending a letter to the DCMs and district Group Records chairs in advance of the August Committee Meetings, so please give it some consideration.

That's all for now. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding Group Records. Have a safe, sober, active summer.

Yours in Love and Service,
Steve K.
