Advisory Actions Process
The pages that can be accessed by the menu on the right contain the Advisory
Actions of the 53rd General Service Conference. The format of the pages is as
follows:
- The recommendations that the respective committee made to the
General Service Conference are noted with a number.
- A small "AA" icon appears before the recommendation
that was approved by the Conference and which became
an Advisory Action.
-   Any discussion and re-address of a previously
approved recommendation, which resulted in the recommendation failing to
gain a 2/3 vote, are identified by this icon.
-   This icon indicates that the recommendation failed
to gain Conference approval.
-   The note icon indicates a special piece of information
connected to a recommendation.
- Discussion of a recommendation is preceded by this
icon.
Important voting information:
- A recommendation must receive 2/3 of the votes cast in order to
become and Advisory Action.
- A vote that contains a majority, but does not reach a 2/3 majority, is
considered a strong recommendation. Meaning that the
respective Board (General Service, Grapevine, or AAWS) should consider
it well before before attempting to find another approach.
- When the Minority Opinion has addresses an issue, and a person who
voted with the majority wished to change their vote, a motion to
reconsider only requires a majority vote in order for the
motion to be reconsidered.
The General Service Conference relies heavily on the "Committee Process" to
accomplish a heavy workload. Therefore, virtually all items to be considered go
to a committee to be discussed prior to the entire Conference deliberating on
them.
Each committee then makes it recommendation(s) to the Conference. At
this point the Conference discusses and votes on the recommendations the
committees have made. The result of those deliberations are contained on
the pages available through the menu on the right.
